You will recall in my last post that my younger brother, Junaid, was diagnosed with tongue cancer in the advanced T4 stage having spread to two lymph nodes in his throat. As you can imagine, it has been a difficult and stressful time for the whole family.
Last week, my brother finished his radiation and chemo treatments at Sunnybrook Hospital. He had two high-doses of Cisplatin chemo and endured 30 treatments of painful radiation. The complications that have occurred during that time would be too much to mention in this newsletter. But needless to say, my brother has been very strong and courageous during this hellish ordeal. He is my hero. The staff, doctors, and nurses who have been treating my brother are also heroes who can sometimes get jaded because of how much they are underappreciated and unrecognized for the skillful but often unpleasant work that they do. I commend their efforts despite some of the skepticism I’ve encountered along the way.
Right now, my brother has reached peak levels of pain as the full force of the radiation treatments takes effect. It will be another six to eight weeks before he gets a prognosis based on x-ray test results. But the good news is that my brother has reacted positively to the treatments and his tumor has reduced to half its original size.
I believe your prayers and thoughts of love have really helped a lot. Thank you so much for your outpouring of love and goodwill! I can’t begin to express how thankful and grateful I am for all your support. So please keep praying for a complete healing in my brother and keep sending those thoughts of love and positive energy!
